Your Mission

This is an excellent opportunity to accelerate the deployment of battery energy storage across the GB transmission and distribution networks, supporting the transition to Net Zero. You will join one of the UK’s fastest-growing battery storage developers, owners and operators, working alongside a team of industry specialists and project delivery professionals.

You will play a key role in developing Field’s portfolio of battery energy storage projects, from early-stage design and value engineering through to delivery and commissioning. Our projects are large-scale, high-value and at the forefront of the energy transition.

This is a highly collaborative role, working closely with the Origination team, Project Developers, Project Managers and Project Engineers, as well as the Corporate Development team. You will report to the Senior Project Development Manager for Grid Connections and be supported by internal specialists across health and safety, grid code, BESS technology, planning, procurement, legal and commercial management.

With four projects currently in construction and a rapidly expanding pipeline, you will also have the opportunity to help shape the engineering strategy and delivery processes of a fast-growing project delivery team.

Key Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing

A role within the Grid team is wide-ranging, with opportunities to contribute across the full project lifecycle — from early-stage development through to construction and commissioning. It is a core role within the business and offers the opportunity to influence projects at every stage.

Grid connection development
  • Analyse the existing and future GB electricity network (transmission and distribution) to inform the location and electrical characteristics of new projects.
  • Track industry developments, including updates from NESO, Ofgem and CUSC, and incorporate these into project strategy.
  • Prepare and manage grid connection applications, coordinating inputs across internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Act as the primary interface with DNOs, TOs and NESO during development and support a smooth transition into construction.

Pre-construction engineering
  • Lead technical evaluation of sites through site visits and third-party investigations, including potential acquisition opportunities.
  • Develop and review technical outputs such as SLDs and fault level contributions.
  • Support design development, review and interpret third-party power system studies to assess grid code compliance, and provide recommendations that inform project decisions
  • Contribute to lender and investor technical due diligence and evaluate technical tender submissions.
  • Coordinate with the grid development team and act as the key interface with DNOs and TOs through construction.

Construction engineering and commissioning
  • Review detailed design submissions from contractors and manage technical RFIs.
  • Support testing and commissioning, coordinating teams and contractors to safely energise and hand over assets to Asset Operations.
  • Assist the Project Manager with inputs to schedules, risk registers and budgets.
  • Support the Senior Project Engineer in reviewing operations and maintenance documentation.

Technical due diligence and acquisitions
  • Support electrical due diligence for projects Field is acquiring.
  • Review transmission and distribution connection offers, assessing risks and delivery timelines.
  • Liaise with developers, TOs and DNOs to understand connection status and delivery programmes.
  • Review single line diagrams (SLDs) and general arrangement drawings prepared by developers to ensure technical suitability.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

The skills you’ll need
  • Electrical Engineering degree (or equivalent) with 5+ years’ experience in the GB electricity industry in a technical or grid-focused role.
  • Strong commercial awareness and a solid understanding of grid connections across both transmission and distribution networks, as well as the wider project development lifecycle.
  • Understanding of the fundamentals of design of a BESS asset
  • Good understanding of the G99 end-to-end process, including supporting projects through the pre-commissioning compliance process, and familiarity with Grid Code and CUSC requirements.
  • Understanding of project health and safety requirements, including CDM regulations.
  • Pragmatic, proactive approach with a strong focus on quality and effective problem solving.
